so after getting the MR2 finished and the new owner collected I had some time to kill so got cracking with the swift..

Here is me saying a sad goodbye to my MR2...

Image

So now the ITB's have been ordered in!!

With that in mind I took the gearbox off the Swift ready to fit our LSD and Short Final Drive

So with the gearbox out I stripped removed the shaft that would be replaced with my short final drive. I found 4 gears with damaged teeth, they just seemed to crumble away when I touched them... I decided rather than fit them and hope they are ok I would replace all the damaged parts so I got ordering the parts from Suzuki...

Image

I then needed to fit all these gears to my new final drive...

Image

First thing was to fit the final drive gear to the new LSD. Here you can see the old vs new...

Image

The final drive is sooo close to the gearbox housing!

Image

With the final drive gear added next I fitted all the gears to the input shaft which was hard work to say the least but it all went together without too many problems..

Image

Next was the gearbox housing

Image

Then the 5th Gear

Image

Fitted the covers, gear selector and she is done...

Image

With some time to kill and lots of work to be done I pulled the engine out. Will strip that down next ready for rebore!

Image
Image

Lots to do but can't wait... Standalone ECU here next week so emanage is coming out next!

So parts have started to arrive, I removed the Greddy emanage ready for Liam and now have our full Motorsport standalone ECU to fit, no major rush as the engine work is not being done until end jan / start or feb giving me a month to strip the block, send the Pistons to JE and source some large valves.... Cams, valve springs, rods, bolts and clutch should be on route soon... The aim is to be ready for Japfest to throw on some slicks and show up some big power cars...

Anyway here is the ECU:

Well with a bit of free time over xmas I decided to get cracking with the project. First up as get the engine on our engine stand and remove all ancillaries.

Image

Next up I needed to remove the crank pulley.. normally I just use a impact gun but neither the electric or compressed air gun would work! I resorted to pulling out the Suzuki Manual which shows a special tool! Rather than wait and buy one I made one out of an old spirit level! It worked and I was back in business!!

Image
Image

Next I took off the cam cover, one bolt sheered however it looks like it was already sheered as it pretty much fell out. Just means I need to drill and tap one hole when the head is being machined so no big deal.

Image

With this off the timing chain cover could be removed, then the timing chain and the head could then be stripped removing the VVT and the Cams. I have not removed the valves yet as cat cams want the whole head to look at making larger valves and wanted them fitted not removed.

Image
Image
Image

With the head removed you could now see the pistons so just the bottom end to strip down..

Image

So the pistons are off to JE to get some custom either 86 or 87mm pistons made with 12:1 compression ratio and that means the block and head once back from Cat Cams can go to be machined!!

Until then our car is laid out on a table...

Image

Can't wait now just want it all back together!!
